Monica Zent, founder of ZentLaw, is an accomplished entrepreneur, attorney, business leader and industry pioneer. Decades ago, having observed a market that was ripe for improvement and in need of healthy competition, Monica envisioned a new business model, now widely known as alternative legal service providers (ALSPs).
In 2002, Monica re-engineered the law firm model to create ZentLaw. She brought innovation in the legal industry at a time when doing so was not being considered. From ushering in the use of subscription legal services to flexible legal talent offerings, early remote work initiatives, and visionary LegalTech solutions, through ZentLaw, Monica has pushed the boundaries of what is possible in the legal industry and beyond.
As a longtime legal industry innovator and a seasoned founder in her own right, with multiple exits, Zent brings a wealth of relevant domain experience to the business and investment community. She is also a patented inventor and trusted advisor to some of the world’s largest brands. Along with the pioneering ZentLaw Labs within ZentLaw years ago, Zent’s early groundbreaking LegalTech ventures have included the creation of AI chatbots for legal teams, an AI-powered clause generation engine, and the development of products such as LawDesk360, an AI-powered collaboration tool for legal teams.
A recognized thought leader and public speaker, Monica regularly writes for top publications such as Bloomberg BNA, Reuters, Entrepreneur, and Legal Technology News. She is a frequent guest on podcasts and has spoken at events such as South by Southwest, the International Bar Association, and the Legal Marketing Association, among others.
Monica’s work has earned her numerous accolades, including being named Silicon Valley Woman of Influence in 2023, receiving the WEBNC Business Leader of the Year Award, and being honored as Entrepreneur of the Year by the International Legal Technology Association in 2019. She serves on various legal industry and non-profit boards and is a long-time diversity advocate, encouraging women and people from all backgrounds to pursue careers in law and technology.
Outside of her professional life, Monica is an avid wellness enthusiast and endurance athlete, having run marathons and participated in other endurance events for over 25 years. She is passionate about maintaining a balanced lifestyle and dedicates her time to pro bono service, supporting diversity in the legal and tech industries, and mentoring the next generation of founders and leaders.
