Firms and In-House Teams Race to Capture AI Legal Knowledge
Law firms and their corporate clients are in a head-to-head race to capture profitable legal knowledge in their own systems, using AI to make expertise much more accessible.
Corporate teams like Salesforce and Palo Alto Networks are capitalizing on advanced tech to move more work in-house, while law firms such as Kirkland and Willkie try to leverage their specialized legal know-how to hold on to their clients.
How well each side ultimately captures and deploys information like preferred contract clauses and legal strategies could determine how far AI goes in changing the client-firm relationship.
“The knowledge and the data — that is where the battle is,” said Monica Zent, a legal tech adviser and founder of the alternative legal services provider ZentLaw. “That is the moat. That is the critical component here of what is going on.”
